A wet day on Ben Starav, Glen Etive, Scotland – September

We did not spend too long in the Lakes, but moved on to north-west Scotland. The weather forecast for the next week or so was not great. We decided to try going up Ben Starav, a munro accessible from Glen Etive just south of Glen Coe.

The weather was a bit iffy that day. As we went up, the mist closed in. We got as far as the top, without any views around. We retraced our route back down, trying a slightly different path once we got down, which seemed to cut across a corner. The river crossing felt fine, but looking at it from the other side made me quite relieved that we had not slipped. The path back from there turned out to be very boggy indeed, and we were soaked from the rain by the time we got back to where we had parked.

The river that we had just crossed. It would not have been good to slip and get washed away in that strong current
