The day after our walk over Sca Fell and Scafell Pike, we awoke to a grey morning. Then it started raining. Eventually we decided to head to Scotland. Stopping at a supermarket in Carlisle which had a good price for fuel, we drove until we reached the Red Squirrel campsite in Glen Coe. We found that the cost of camping there had gone up a bit, but they had in the meantime done some work on new toilet/shower blocks, though most of them seemed to be closed as the site was very quiet. However, for this fairly big campsite, they still only had one washing up area (a halved oil drum with one side for washing dishes, one side for washing clothes)!
B spent a lot of time trying to get a fire going with wood that was available on the campsite which had been getting rained on all day. I chipped in for a change, as B was about to give up, trying to blow some air into the middle of the fire gently, which may have helped, as it seemed to finally get going after that. Your clothes do end up smelling very smoky, though. I cooked a vegetarian spag bol for us that evening – the dried soya mince was not too bad (I am not a vegetarian)!
