A boat trip into the Smoo Cave, Durness – August

Laxford Bay
Laxford Bay, on way to Smoo Cave

We weren’t walking on hills this day, but we did look at hills along the way. The Smoo Cave is in the far north-west of Scotland, in Durness. We took a trip on the dinghy operated by a man who told us about the geology of the caves.

Suilven veiled in mist
View of a misty Suilven towards a south-easterly direction from the windy-windy and steep single track B869 road that passes through Drumbeg, whose village store is the ‘only deli on the west coast of Scotland north of the Kyle of Lochalsh’. Had the best smoked cheese from there that I’ve ever tried (I don’t even like smoked cheese), and they sell their own (very nice) cask-strength single malt whisky. On way back to Achmelvich
